This week, I started the prototype and experimentation for my project. My goal for this week was to use different softwares to test if my idea would be possible and which would be best for it. While testing, I built out prototypes to see if my ideas will come to life in the way I wanted.
I used Godot and blender for this because I am already familiar with how to use them, and I think they will be perfect for this project. I first tried to combine a Blender project with a Godot project, because blender is a lot easier to model in. This did not work as well as I wanted, so I went all in on Godot for this first prototype. I was able to build out a simple model and UI system that allowed users to change the color of lights on the scene.
I have decided to go with Godot for my future prototypes because I was able to achieve the most success with it. Even though it might not look as photo realistic as Blender, it has better interact-ability. I am choosing it over unity because I am much more familiar with blender and I think that I will have an easier time using it.
It has been exciting to actually build out what I have been envisioning. I like the very pretty and aesthetically pleasing look of the light and space movement, so it has been fun replicating that in 3D. I have also found it satisfying to connect these environmental aspects to an interactive element. I am glad it works that you can make an input and change the environment.
So far I am still on schedule for this project. This week and next week I am continuing to experiment with different softwares to see what works best. I have a good idea for my narrative but it is not set in stone yet, it might need a little bit of work.
My inspiration this week still comes from a lot of the Light and Space movement I have seen while researching this project. I love the look of a lot of these projects. Now, I am deciding which ones to draw inspiration from and where my work can deviate from theirs.
There is this group of 3D modelers and animators that I have followed for awhile called Corridor Digital. They are really good 3D modelers and animators that make their own work but also critique movies. They have inspired me to want to possibly pursue this digital medium. They make this process seem really fun and exciting.
I think they help the most to motivate and excite me which encourages me to do more and better work. They explain their projects so well and it helps inspire me a lot. They are also not afraid to make more comedic works alongside their more serious ones. This shows me how versatile this medium can be, and how you can make it for a variety of reasons.
They make this dream seem possible which is really helpful. They also do a lot of good work which inspires a lot of mine. They make things that push boundaries, look super clean and satisfying, while also creating work that's more satirical/funny.
