Prospective Project Proposal

Working Title

Project Description:

This project and its main idea are very much still in progress, but here are some of my initial thoughts. I am taking inspiration from the works of the light and space group, specifically James Turrell and Doug Wheeler. I like how they invoke strong emotions while remaining very simple yet have a beautiful aesthetic. While I work on this project, I want to work on hitting these points through my own art. I am hoping that achieving these factors will draw out the emotional response I’m looking for. In addition, I want this to be interactable, I want the viewer to have some agency in the art and story.

My current plan is to use a non traditional controller for this project, like a midi board or atari controller. I want to do this so to have a separate tactile element to the project, but also to have a different form of interactability to control. I want this project to utilize particles and lighting in a program like p5js, godot, or unity.

I want these to come together to create a full interactive experience that creates emotion for the viewer, using a balance of beauty and consequence. The player will experiment with different actions, colors, and effects which immediately change the space around them, but will also have a larger consequence that is not immediately obvious to the viewer.

Even if this doesn’t end up being my final plan, there are some elements here that I want to make sure end up in the final version. The player reward/consequence system is a theme that I want to explore further. This is an emotional response that I want to see if I can replicate with the player regardless of how the game looks. I also think that the equipment would stay the same regardless of what the game looks like. The different software listed are all programs that I have used in the past and I am familiar with, and I would still want to use a non-traditional controller.
